Obituary for Virgil E. Scott Virgil E. Scott was born February 2, 1930 the 2nd of 6 children to Ed and Hazel Scott. He grew up on a farm in Athens County, Ohio and graduated from Rome Canaan High School. He joined the U.S. Army and served from 1951-1953 as a tank driver.

On April 9, 1955 he married Janet Linscott and they moved to Colorado where Virgil graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Wildlife Biology. He then worked as a Biologist for the State of Ohio and in 1964 moved with his wife and 4 children to Scottsdale, Arizona. Virgil worked for the U.S. Government doing research on cavity nesting birds for many years and co-authored a book on the subject.

In 1975 the family moved to Ft. Collins where Virgil continued to work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Virgil retired in 1986 and began a new life as a respected grower in the Northern Colorado area.

He created a wonderful farm with his wife Janet that served the community with vintage garlic, sweet corn and roasted chilies. Many children enjoyed the pumpkin patch rides during the fall seasons. He was a tireless member and supporter of Farmer’s Markets in Ft.

Collins, Loveland and Estes Park. He was an avid fan of CSU women’s basketball and volleyball and loved watching the Rockies and the Broncos. He was also an elder and spiritual leader in his church for many years.

Virgil was faithful to his heritage and family in Ohio, visiting them as often as possible and enjoying hunting trips and family gatherings. Virgil lived his last 4 years as a beloved and admired resident of Good Samaritan Retirement Village. He is preceded in death by his dear wife Janet, his son Rusty and his brother Dorrell (Sleepy) Scott.

He is survived by his daughters: Joy (Ric) Lehman, Sharon Rue, Karen Scott, daughter-in-law Joanne Scott, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, his brothers Pearl and Bill Scott, and sisters Betty Mullins and Reba Peck. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Retirement Village. A reception will immediately follow the funeral service.
