Virginia Ann (Ginny) Burns, age 90, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney, Ohio. She was born on November 13, 1927 in Sidney, Ohio to the late Lawrence and Laura (Kinninger) Watercutter. On November 29, 1947 she married Robert Burns who preceded her in death April 8, 2012.
Ginny is survived by two sons Robert Michael (Mike) (Gretchen) Burns and Thomas Patrick (Nancy) Burns of Sidney, Ohio and one daughter Lori Ann (Brian) Derwent of Mesa, Arizona. A daughter Joyce Elaine Burns preceded her in death on February 5, 2002. She is survived by 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Jon D. (Natalie) Rumpff of Goodyear, AZ and their sons Brice and Zane. Nathan A. (Megan) Burns of Sidney, OH and their daughter Caroline. Brent A. (Courtney) Burns of Anna, OH and their daughters Ayla Lewis, Gwendolyn Burns and Aaron Burns of Sidney.
Stephanie A. (Tyler) Cavinder of Sidney, OH and their daughter Lydia. Christy Chilcote of Columbus, OH and her children Drew and Cailyn. Michele (Matt) Morman of Columbus, OH, Ryan Derwent of Columbus, OH and his children Isabel and Luke, and Anthony Derwent of Columbus, OH.
Ginny was preceded in death by her brother and sister in law Ralph and Thelma Watercutter. She was also preceded in death by brother in laws James K. Burns and his wife Eleanor, and Richard (Dick) Burns and his wife Virginia. Ginny graduated from Holy Angels High School in 1945 and is a lifelong member of Holy Angels Church.
She served on the parish advisory council, is a member of the Women’s Sodality and ran the country store stand at the annual parish picnic with her friend Georgene Thobe for many years. She was also a member of the “Dirty Dozen” card club which provided support for many Holy Angels and Lehman High School activities. After graduation she worked at Monarch Machine Tool then began raising a family after her marriage to Bob.
In 1965 when Bob was elected county sheriff she assumed the duties of matron at the jail from 1965-1968. Beginning in 1969 she was employed in the accounting department of Amos Press Inc. retiring in 1992. After retirement Ginny and her husband served as reading tutors at Central Elementary School for a number of years and travelled the country.
Ginny was very active in the community being a member of the Altrusa Club for many years. She was a member and past president of the Shelby County Democrat Women. A member and past president of the Amos Press retirees.
A member and past president of the Wilson Memorial Auxiliary and ran the hospital gift shop for many year accumulating more than 5,000 hours of volunteer service to the hospital. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sidney with Rev. Fr.
Peter Langenkamp as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney, Ohio. Family and friends may call from 5 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday June 5, 2018 at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney.
All arrangements are under the direction of the staff of the Adams Funeral Home.
