Virginia Barton Penton Sylacauga, AL – Funeral service for Virginia Barton Penton, 83, will be Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Sylacauga with Dr. Rick Patrick and Dr. Larry Morrison officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL. Mrs. Penton died Monday, December 17, 2018 at Coosa Valley Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Grady Barton, and twin sisters, Nellie Janette Barton Ledkins and Martha Annette Barton. She is survived by her husband, Erskine Ramsey Penton; daughter, Neva Patrice Penton Eklund (Jason) ; son, Erskine Gray Penton (Mary) ; five grandchildren, Jason Graham Eklund, Malcolm Gray “Major” Penton, Ramsey Mullins Penton, Joseph Fonville “Joe” Penton, Marjorie Mary Virginia Penton; and several nieces and nephews. Virginia was born in Bemiston, AL and grew up in Sylacauga, AL.

She graduated from B.B. Comer Memorial High School, Auburn University, Jacksonville State University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Erskine and Virginia were married in 1955 at Mignon Baptist Church, where they were members. Later they joined First Baptist Church of Sylacauga.

Virginia served her church as a teacher and leader of youth, young married adults, and senior adults, particularly through The Metallic Club. Virginia was a caring, giving, and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt; but most importantly she was a faithful follower of her savior Jesus Christ. Visitation will be Saturday December 22, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Sylacauga.

Pallbearers will be Dick Bagwell, Bill Barron, Bruce Brooks, Bill Campbell, Robert Campbell, David Currie, Chuck Davis, Jim Dickinson, David Jackson, Tommy Kines, Tim Pearce, Jon Peterson, Jeff Slaughter, Barry Vaughn and David Wasserman. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Sylacauga, Hope Hospice, Inc. or The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Memorial messages may be sent to the family at www.
