Obituary for Virginia Elizabeth Higgins Virginia Elizabeth Higgins, 82 Lakeland – Virginia Elizabeth Higgins, 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was born in Pelham, Georgia on January 18, 1936 to Nathaniel and Bessie Nesmith. The family moved to Florida in the 1940’s.

Virginia met her first husband Walter Lee Higgins and they were married on November 5, 1955 for 33 years until his death on December 31, 1988. Together they were foster parents for many children for many years. She loved taking care of her family.

Virginia was employed by Publix and retired after 10 years of service to the company. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Virginia is survived by her second husband of 12 years Lester Ray Mahoney of Lakeland, FL.

; her 3 son’s, Marcus (Dena) Higgins, Gordon (Candy) Higgins, Curtis Higgins; 6 grandchildren, Crystal Jernigan, Cristen Pointer, Alyson Moss, Lee Higgins, Trent Higgins, Trevor Higgins and 11 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 am on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home 3350 Mall Hill Rd. Lakeland, Florida 33810.
