Virginia Ruth Pierce Guthrie – A Woman of faith who loved our Lord Jesus Christ! Known by many as ‘Miss Jenny’ or Nana, she was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Clayton Henry and Martha Ruth Pierce. Jenny loved her family and friends, neighbors and really all people.
She wanted everyone she came in contact with to know Jesus as their Savior, before their lives faded away like a vapor. Jenny married Frank G. Guthrie on Christmas Eve of 1949, at the home of their Pastor in Birmingham, Alabama, and together they raised two children, Rick and Sandy. Jenny & Frank loved the Lord and served in every capacity they felt would give glory to God until their deaths.
For many years their homes were offered as sanctuaries for visiting evangelists and missionaries. Because of their love for God and people, Jenny and Frank enjoyed hosting house church and Bible studies which were opened to anyone in town who wanted to attend. Frank and Jenny served in various capacities while attending Hunter Street Baptist of Birmingham, Alabama, First Baptist of Smyrna, Georgia, United Methodist of Grantville, GA and Courts of Praise in LaGrange, GA.
Jenny was a wonderful mother who imparted the things of the Lord to her family. …”. they shall rise up and call her blessed”.
(Proverbs 31:28) She was a good and faithful friend. She chose to only see the good in people and believed each one had a purpose, a calling and gifting from our creator. She will be missed.
She has fought the good fight. She has finished the race. She has kept the faith.
