NOTE: This service is arranged by and will be held at the Aitkin Northland Funeral Home of Cloquet, MN. Wallace Richard Schulke, 82 of Wright passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 23, 2018. He was born July 3, 1935 to Richard and Regina (Jagow) Schulke in Alexandria, MN.

He was raised in Alexandria and graduated from Central School with the Class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1959. On January 27, 1962 Wally was united in marriage to Jeanne Eidem.

Commuting from Alexandria, Wallace was employed as a Correctional Officer at the St. Cloud Reformatory and a Correctional Counselor at the Sauk Centre Home School, where he also served as the President of the Local AFSME Employee’s Union, retiring in 1985. During his formative years, Wallace caught frogs and raised worms to sell to local bait shops and sportsmen. He became an avid hunter and fisherman.

He nurtured his garden and planted flowers providing his family with copious and fragrant produce. He adored his children and grandchildren and taught them how to appreciate the outdoors and respect nature. Wallace was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Jennis and Ray Stanz; brother-in-law, Edward Helgeson; and a nephew, Paul Stanz.

Wallace often commented that he was blessed with his happy and first-rate family. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Wright; children, Mark (Janet) of Duluth, Kim (Ray) Kallstrom of Alexandria, LoriAnn (Mike) Schug of Crystal, and David (Mollie) Schulke of Round Rock, TX; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marian Helgeson of Villard, MN; and several nieces and nephews. The family is extremely grateful and appreciative of everything that was done by the first responders.

A celebration of Wallace’s life will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet.
