Wallace J “Wally” Rose, 91, of Lincoln, formerly of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died October 20, 2018 at Lincoln. He was born June 16, 1927 in Greeley, NE, son of James H. and Mabel Rose. Wally grew up at Broken Bow and graduated from Broken Bow High.

Later he graduated from Kearney State College with a Masters in Education and Creighton University with a Bachelors in Administration. He lived at Broken Bow, West Point, Gothenburg, Fremont, and Lincoln. He devoted his life to kids as a high school teacher, coach athletic director, and took pride in taking care of the local athletic fields.

He was passionate about sports and was a active supporter of both local and state sporting events. The Nebraska Cornhuskers had a loyal fan in Wally. He was a proud Democrat and had a kind heart for people in need.

He had a special place in his heart for the family cat Kitty Rose. His membership list included the Cuming County Choraliers, Gothenburg Community Theatre, Nebraska Teachers Association, and the Nebraska Coaches Association. Survivors include two sons, Kevin Rose of Lincoln, NE, Timothy (Mary Grace Kangas) Scherer of Maple Valley, WA; three daughters, Kathy Rose of Hot Springs, AR, Kandra (Dr. David ) Imes of Rhinelander, WI, Judith (Matt) Connealy of Decatur, NE; sister-in-law, Melvina Dinklage of Norfolk, NE; brother-in-law, Frank “Bud” and Rita Barta, Jr. of Norfolk, NE; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; along with many friends and extended family.

Wallace was preceded in death by wife, Audrey Rose, father, James Harrison Rose, mother, Mabel Rose, sister, Jeannett McDowell, sister, Mary Henderson, sister, JoAnn Rose. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel. Inurnment will take place in the St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery in Broken Bow.

Memorials may be given to the UNICEF USA’s Kids In Need of Desk (K.I.N.D. ) for Malawi, Africa and can be sent to Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 10th street, Gothenburg, NE 69138. The family asks that those attending the funeral wear Husker attire.
