Walter Emerson Willits, 78, of Cumberland, IN passed away July 25, 2018. He was born March 12, 1940 in Indianapolis, IN to parents Hilda (Ross) and Donald Willits. Survivors include his wife, Judy (Harper) Willits; daughters: Dawn Wilson, Melissa Willits, Pam Eccles; brothers: Theodore Willits, Richard (Abbie) Willits; grandchildren: Tyler Wyatt, Lauren Wyatt, Allen Eccles; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald B. and William “Bill” Willits; and sister, Betty Blackmier. Walter graduated from Howe High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1958-1964.

He retired from Ris Paper Company, and most recently was a courier for Mid America Laboratories. Walter was a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. He enjoyed wood working and slot car racing.

His two favorite quotes were: “I know who I am and Whose I am,” and also, “Remember who you are and what you stand for”. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to New Palestine United Methodist Church CMC or the Pancreatic Cancer Society. Services will be Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at New Palestine United Methodist Church, 3565 Co. Rd.

500 W, New Palestine, IN. Visitation will be Friday, August 17, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the church. Officiating will be Pastor Mark Wesler and Pastor John Thomas.

Burial will be at Washington Park East. Arrangements handled by Bell Mortuary & Crematory, Shangrila Chapel, 1444 W US Hwy 52, Fountaintown, IN 46130.
