Wanda Gurley September 24, 1939 – March 04, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Wanda Gurley, 79, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday afternoon, March 4, 2019 at her home. Born September 24, 1939 in Emporia, Kansas, she was the daughter of George and Genevieve (Jones) Windes. She was raised and received her education in Emporia, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1958.

She was united in marriage to George Gurley on June 29, 1958 in a small church in Williamsburg, Kansas. The couple made their home in Emporia where Wanda worked at a local jewelry store and later Hallmark Cards. In 1982, the family moved to Winfield and Wanda worked for a short time at SRS before beginning her career at Cowley County Mental Health.

She remained there for over 18 years, retiring as Office Manager in 2002. Wanda was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Arkansas City. She enjoyed reading, gardening, painting, and decorating.

Her family includes her husband George of Winfield; her daughters, Tori Petersen of Kansas City; Shawn Kincaid of Wichita; her son Todd Gurley of Rose Hill; her brother Dennis Windes and wife, Delores of Richardson, TX; her 11 grandchildren, Brooke, Dustin, Zachery, Levi, Natasha, Lauren, Rylie, Trevor, Keaton, Kiya, and Breckyn; and two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Adeline. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be held Monday, March 11, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service.

A visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 2 to 6 P.M. at the funeral home. The family will greet visitors from 2 to 4 that afternoon A memorial has been established in Wanda’s name for Trinity Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
