Wanda’s Obituary MURPHYSBORO – Wanda Lou Herd, 89, of Murphysboro, passed away at 8:11 am, Monday, May 27, 2019 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Wanda was born in Hurst, Illinois, on July 12, 1929, the daughter of Everett and Ruby White Steele. She married Raymond Herd on January 17, 1959 at Murphysboro.

He preceded her in death on April 13, 2003. Wanda worked at Lustor in Murphysboro for several years. Wanda was a member of Berean Christian Church, Murphysboro.

Wanda is survived by daughters, Cheryl (Dallas) Mayer of Carbondale, Leah (Mark) Ralph of Vergennes, and Karen Ellis of Murphysboro; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 great grandson; sisters, Doris Jane Vegas of San Larenzo, CA, Sharon Stein of Murphysboro, Mary Belle Throop of Chester; and brother, John Steele of Las Vegas, NV. Wanda was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Samuel and Ronald Hawk; granddaughter, Kaileigh Rae Ralph; brother, Hobart; and sister, Iris Garver. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Ava, with Troy Humphrey officiating.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Murphysboro. Visitation will be at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call on Tuesday from 6 pm until 8 pm then on Wednesday from 7:30 am until 10 am. Memorials may be given to Berean Christian Church or Prairie Living at Chautauqua.
