Obituary for Werner J. “Red” Meister Werner J. “Red” Meister, age 87, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018. He was born in Muskegon Heights, MI to William and Elsa (Schlosser) Meister. He resided in the area his entre life.
His family owned their own business, Meister’s Yard-N-Garden. He grew up as a young boy in the family business. Red graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1950.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Larabee on April 26, 1952 in Spring Lake, MI and she preceded him in death on November 14, 2007. After retirement, Red and Barb spent their winters in Florida.
He was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church. They had 3 children, Debbie (Mark) Jados, Gary (Cindy) Meister, William (Cheri) Meister, all of Muskegon; one brother, Eric (Judy) Meister; 10 grandchildren, Becky (Mark) Lynn, Ryan (Heather) O’Neal, Brian (Keri) Meister, Amanda (Jorge) Meister-Lugo, Lisa (Deric) Budwick, Julie (Francis Griswold) Jackson, Robert Jados, Gary (Amber Tucker) Meister II, Buddy Meister, Katelynn Meister; 10 great-grandchildren, Caleb O’Neal, Jacob Jackson, Jacob Lynn, Callie O’Neal, Emma Lynn, Brady Meister, Hunter Meister, Jett Jackson, Eastyn Budwick, Mackenzie Meister; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Betty Meister, and 1 sister-in-law, Dorothy Postema.
A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Friday, January 4, 2019 at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church (4475 Henry St.) with Pastor Scott Faith officiating. VISITATION will be held 5-8 PM Thursday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 and one hour prior to the service, 12-1 PM Friday at the church. Burial will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery in Fruitport.
