Wilbert “Will” John Gahler April 11, 1930 – February 06, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Wilbert “Will” John Gahler, age 88, of Janesville died peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday evening, February 6, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Monday, February 11, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Interment with military honors will be in Janesville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-5 PM on Sunday, February 10, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Memorials are preferred to the Secret Angel Fund at Trinity Lutheran School. Wilbert John Gahler was born on April 11, 1930, on the family farm to Herman and Laura (Roeker) Gahler.

He grew up on a farm south of Janesville and attended school in Waldorf, graduating with the class of 1948. Following his education he farmed alongside his parents before enlisting into the United States Army where he proudly served his country. After his time in the Army, Will furthered his education at DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago.

On August 22, 1959, Will was united in marriage to Carol Krause at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Together they made their home in Janesville, raising three children. Will worked for several years for E.F. Johnson in Waseca before opening his own business in Janesville called “Wills Radio and TV”.

He was a proud business owner in Janesville and was very active in the community. Will was a Trinity Lutheran School Board Member, he served on the City Council, Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Janesville American Legion Post #281. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as Trustee.

Will enjoyed gardening, playing cards, traveling, and riding bike. He is remembered as a determined individual who would do anything for anyone along with his unique sense of humor. Blessed be his memory.

Will is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol; children: Rhonda (Mike) Omtvedt of Madison Lake, Aaron (Dianne) Gahler of Elysian, and Nadine (Jeff) Formo of Starbuck; grandsons: Brandon (Julia) Omtvedt, Bryce, Brady and Brett Omtvedt, and Anthony, Brett and Caleb Formo; great grandchildren: Parker and Finn Omtvedt; brother, Ernie (Betty) Gahler of Janesville; sisters: Anita Risto of Waseca and Beatrice Tiegs of Le Sueur; sister-in-law, Betty Gahler of Gaylord; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Herbert and brothers-in-law: Alfred Risto and Elmer Tiegs.
