Willa Mae Scott was born to the late Thomas and Essie Maxwell on Friday, May 13, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio. Willa was always proud to say that she was born on Friday the 13th at thirteen minutes after 10:00 a.m. She would say that her dad said she was either very unlucky or very lucky.

After Bill’s death in 1999, Willa moved to Woodbridge, Virginia, with her oldest daughter, Michele. In 2008, following Michele’s untimely death, Willa relocated to Reynoldsburg, Ohio to reside with her daughter, Barbara Ann, and son-in-law, Tony. Willa was baptized at an early age and had strong Christian beliefs.
At the time of her death, she was a member of the 7th Avenue Community Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio. Willa always looked at life positively. She enjoyed her childhood to the fullest and told countless stories of her escapades with her siblings throughout the years.
Educated in the Philadelphia, PA public school system, Willa graduated from Simon Gratz High School. In 1978, she joined McNeil Consumer Products Company as a data processor. One of her proudest moments was when she was promoted to Data Processing Manager, a position which she retained until her retirement in 1988.
Family life was extremely important to Willa. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Willa was a wonderful cook.
In her younger days, Willa volunteered her time to the School of the Blind and always felt it important to give to multiple charities. Most people did not know that Willa was legally blind in one eye with reduced corrected sight in the other eye. One of her proudest days was the day she finally got to vote for the first black President of the United States.
Willa emotionally said, “my granny always said there would be a black President and now she can see one through my eyes”. Willa was preceded in death by her parents, husband William M.H. Scott, daughter Michele Bellizaire, son Gary Scott, two brothers and a sister. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Ann (Tony) Johnson; sister Ada Lee; six grandchildren, Gary (Samantha) Scott, Danielle Scott, Simone Bellizaire, Demetrius Bellizaire, Alyvia Johnson and Tonya Johnson; five great grandchildren, Alexis Scott, Kayla Scott, Naisha Scott, Elijah Scott and Jordynn Greene; and a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
