Obituary for William Ernest Slack SLACK, William E. “Bill” Kalamazoo William E. Slack, 76, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018. Bill was born September 24, 1941 to the late Charles and Madge (Coffinger) Slack. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Gould on August 20, 1966.

She preceded him in death in May of 2001. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 until honorably discharged in 1964. Bill was a longtime member of Milwood United Methodist Church.

He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was active with the Boy Scouts. He volunteered with Friends of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trailway, and was a board member of the Oshtemo Historical Society. Bill is survived by his children, Heidi (Paul) Chamness, Kathleen (Stephen) Neeley and Matthew (Angela Matusiak) Slack; 3 grandchildren, Adam Chamness, and Maxwell and Logan Neeley; and brother, Ronnie Slack.

The family will greet friends on Monday, August 6th from 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, August 7th, 11:00am at Milwood United Methodist Church, 3919 Portage St., Kalamazoo, MI 49001 where the family will also greet friends for 1 hour prior to the service. A private interment will be in Grand Prairie Cemetery at a later time. Memorials may be directed to Milwood United Methodist Church, Kalamazoo River Valley Trailway or to Oshtemo Historical Society, Drake House.
