William W Wallen January 09, 1941 – February 11, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card William “Bill” Wallen, 78, passed away Monday, February 11, 2019 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Cordele, Georgia on January 9, 1941, to Henry M. and Ella M. Wallen. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: John, Richard and James.

At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as Chief Electrician on the air craft carrier USS Independence. Bill was honorably discharged after six-and-a-half-years. Bill and Sara married January 3, 1964 in Fort Collins, Colorado, where they have made their home for the past 54 years.

Bill worked for CSU Research, then decided to start his own construction company and build homes. He belonged to the Optimist Club and was a Fort Collins Police Reserve Officer for 25 years. He worked for ELCO Water District (East Larimer County) and Cherry Hills Sanitation District.

Bill will always be remembered for his love of trains, having built a life-size locomotive and caboose for the tracks in his back yard. Bill built Sara her dream home where they raised their family. He is survived by Sara and their two children Lisa (Mike) Hesskamp of Thornton, CO and Bill Jr. (Karla) Wallen of Fort Collins as well as 8 grandchildren and sweet little Emma their schnauzer.

A celebration of life will be held 1pm, Monday, February 25, 2019 at Faith Church, 3920 S. Shields, Fort Collins, Co. A second celebration and interment will be held 11am, Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. All are welcome at these ceremonies. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Larimer County Pathways Hospice in Fort Collins in care of Vessey Funeral Service, 2649 E. Mulberry St., A-1, Fort Collins, CO 80524.

The family especially thanks all the wonderful staff of hospice for their care during Bill’s illness.
