Obituary of William Schafer William E. Schafer, 94, passed away December 13th, 2018, and was reunited with his wife, Marguerite (1998). Born in Defiance, Ohio on October 20, 1924, Bill grew up in Stow, where he resided all his life and built his home. He retired from the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier in 1983, with over 30 years of service.

Bill served in the United States Army during World War II from March 1943 to February 1946. He was an army medic, serving in both European and Asiatic theaters, giving first aid to battle casualties from enemy mortar and artillery fire under intense combat conditions. He received numerous combat medals, including the army bronze star medal, for distinguished and heroic service and achievement.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Marguerite; parents Carl and Louise, brother Richard, and sister Emma Zimmerman. He is survived by daughter Carol, sons Michael and Paul, grandson Christopher Baroldy of Phoenix, AZ, sister Mary Lou (Bill) Howard, sisters-in-law Mary (Fred) Schaffer and Rebecca White, and many nieces and nephews. Bill was an avid sports fan, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes, an awesome “history buff”, and great conversationalist.

A true family man – husband, father, grandfather, and caretaker. Our family would like to thank Akron General Hospital, Bath Creek Estates, and Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center for their kind, compassionate, and loving care of dad. Per his wishes, there will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery, Rt. 91 in Twinsburg, on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 11 AM, where dad will “rest in peace” next to his wife.
