Willis J. Michelsen, age 92, of Genoa, OH passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Genoa Care Center in Genoa. He was born August 8, 1926 to parents Hans Christian and Pearl A. (Shatzer) Michelsen, in Stony Ridge, OH. He was a graduate of the class of 1944 from North Troy High School in Lemoyne.

On June 15, 1946 he married Kathryn A. Lenz at the Salem Lutheran Church in Pemberville, OH. Willis worked at Libbey-Owens-Ford at the East Broadway Plant as a Glass Cutter for 39 years, having started in 1945.

His memberships included The Fraternal Order of Eagles in Fremont, the “Car Coddler” antique car club, and he had also participated in the Master Track and Field age group 75-80. From a very young age Willis was an avid swimmer having won diving competitions at the age of 11 years old. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and attending all of the grandchildren’s school and sports events.

It was his family that brought him the greatest joy and remained the center of his life. Willis is survived by his children: Karen Vaughn of Lemoyne, OH, Ken (Mary) Michelsen of MI, Kevin (Jane) Michelsen of Elmore, OH, Konnie Finch of Woodville, OH, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Kathryn, he was preceded in death by his parents, son’s-in-law: Dale Vaughn, Scott Finch, brothers: Willard C. Michelsen, Melvin L. Michelsen and niece: Shirley Michelsen Gabor.

Friends and Family will be received 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 201 West Main Street, Woodville, OH. Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Blair Miller, Officiating.

Interment will be in Troy Township Cemetery, Luckey, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may take the form of contributions to: To any local animal shelter of the donor’s choosing. Those wishing to express a word of encouragement, share a memory or photo may do so at: www.
