Wimayra’s Obituary Wimayra Pastora Luy, 57, of Lansdale, passed away March 28, 2019. Born February 25, 1962, in Venezuela, she was the daughter of Gisela Sillier, Lansdale, and the late Oscar Luy. “Wimayra was a dedicated musician who spent her early life spreading Venezuelan folklore around the world with groups such as Un Solo Pueblo and Costa Caribe.

After having emigrated to the United States in 2002 she continued to spread her love for Venezuelan culture as the director for the Casa de Venezuela Music Ensemble. Professionally, Wimayra spent over 20 years as a professor of mathematics at institutions such as the Universidad Simon Bolivar, Temple University, and the Community College of Philadelphia – where as a tenured professor she co-authored the textbook for one of the Math Department’s most important courses designed to prepare students from poor economic backgrounds for college-level math. She was proud to offer her textbook at zero cost for all that wanted to learn.

“ Along with her mother survivors include a son, Oscar Luy, Lansdale; her fiancee, Dwayne Jones, Millville, NJ; brother Carlos Abreu-Sillier, London; sister, Mauren Mora-Luy, Woodward, OK; three step daughters, Clarice Jones, Millville, NJ, Nicolette Silverman, PA and Britney Jones, Millville, NJ. Also surviving are grandchildren, Gavin and Sadie Silverman. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2019, at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave.

, Lansdale, with visitation from 12:30 p.m. until time of service. Burial will be private.
