Obituary for Winston Lee Mills Winston Lee Mills, 33, of Merriman, NE was born September 22, 1985 in Colorado Springs, CO to Thomas H. Mills Jr. and Lisa (Riske) Mills and passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018 at his home in Nebraska. Winston grew up in Anacoco, LA and graduated from Leesville High School. He entered the United States Army on May 25, 2006 in Shreveport, LA and served with the 82ndAirborne Division, 3rd Brigade Combat Team while stationed at Fort Bragg, NC.

During his military service to our country Winston served two tours in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and one in Afghanistan receiving the Afghanistan Campaign medal with Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with Three Campaign Stars, Royal Thai Army Airborne Wings, Army Commendation Medal (twice), Army Good Conduct Medal (twice), National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He was Honorably discharged on July 11, 2013 at Fort Bragg, NC. Winston lived life to the fullest with love and dedication to every facet of his short life.

His love for horses and the cowboy way of life was evident by his chosen occupation of Ranch Cowboy for the Moursund Cattle Co. in Nebraska. He was member or the First United Methodist Church in Leesville, LA. Winston is preceded in death by his father, Thomas H. Mills; maternal grandmother, Wanda Mae Riske; maternal grandfather, Robert Lee Riske; paternal grandfather, Thomas Herman Mills Sr. and paternal grandfather, Lawrence Graves.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Lisa Mills of Stillwater, OK; sister, Jessica Mills Lawrence and husband Peter of Jacksonville, NC; niece, Roxi Lawrence of Jacksonville, NC; grandmother, Ida June Graves of Pineville, MO; special friend, Jessica Koenen of Hastings, NE; his aunts, Evie Kearney (Chip), Nina Much, Melissa McClendon (Billy); uncles, Brian Riske (Becky) and David Mills (Carla); several cousins, many extended family members, his battle buddies and a host of friends. Viewing for Winston will be Friday, October 5, 2018 at the funeral home with family receiving friends 9AM-12PM Funeral Services are 12:30PM Friday, October 5, 2018 in the Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Gibson, OK with Pastor Denoris Hamilton officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Tim Pennington, Dr. Brett Martin, Lyle Clayton, Joey Oden, Colby Oden and Jimmy Triplett serving as casket bearers.
