Yolanda “Mookie” Lawrence September 23, 1982 – May 07, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Yolanda Lawrence, affectionately called “Mookie” was born on September 23, 1982 in Frankfurt Am Main Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany to then Staff Sergeant Sandra G. Lawrence and Sgt. Ronald Islar, both stationed at Babenhausen Germany. Yolanda possessed “dual citizenship” from the United States and Germany.

While continuing her duties in Ansbach, Germany, Yolanda was being raised by her two aunts: Mrs. Doreen Parrish (and now retired, Police Commissioner of Bridgeport) Wendy J. Bridgeforth. She was blessed to have three brothers: Mr. Joseph “Puffy” Parrish, Mr. Michael Bridgeforth of Connecticut, and Mr. Demond Bridgeforth, of Oakland, California. She also had two uncles: Mr. Anthony Bridgeforth (Deceased) and Mr. Kevin Brown.

She also leaves to mourn her passing, Mr. Ronald Islar (her father), and Mookie’s other siblings, who live in New York. Yolanda’s step-mom, who is now deceased, shared in the love of united extended family. Mookie’s ever-present, joined at the hip, together forever soulmate, was her daughter: Karma Austin who was born in Connecticut.

If you saw Mookie, you saw Karma. They were positively inseparable, as they are now. We all know that love never dies.

When Yolanda finally decided to call North Carolina home, her Spiritual education began at Faith Baptist Church (under Dr. Darryl E. McConnell) which is located in Gibsonville, North Carolina. Minister Trevor S. King and her mother, Mrs. Sandra G. King relocated from Bridgeport Connecticut to be closer to her and Karma. Yolanda went on to join Elon First Baptist Church, Elon, NC, where she was able to showcase her gifts, talents, and her never ending devotion and service to the Lord.

And finally, I’d like to mention Mookie’s best friend (since the fifth grade) from Bridgeport Connecticut, her “sister”: Mrs. Loveta Mosley-Merchant of Virginia. She is considered Karma’s second mom. Yolanda was and still is a beautiful daughter, a beautiful mother, a beautiful friend, with a beautiful smile.

Her light will always shine! Love Mom.
