Obituary for Zane C. Gray FORT WORTH–Zane Gray went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 27, 2018, from his home in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 93. In honor of his life, services for Zane will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2018, in Mount Olivet Chapel, Fort Worth, Texas, with Juanita Ransom Bullard officiating. After conclusion of the funeral service, Zane will be laid to rest in the Garden of Memories, Mount Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum, under the sounds of “Taps”.
Family visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 30, at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Russell Peebles, Dale Peebles, Corky Moody, Matthew Gray, Nathan Gray, and Ethan Gray. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you may make a donation to your favorite charity, or one which supports our U.S. military and their families.
Zane was born October 18, 1924, in Montague County, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Gray. As a young man, Zane joined the US Army. He proudly served in the U.S. military from 1944-1964, as a telecommunications specialist, and retired after 20 years as a Captain.
After retiring from the service, Zane went to TCU to study architecture, and later started his own construction remodeling business, where he worked well past his 80th birthday. On March 27, 1948, Zane married Mildred Berniece Martin in Weatherford, Texas. He was a beloved father of their three children: Robert, Mike, and Lisa.
The family wishes to give their thanks and appreciation for our dearest friends, Dale and Sindy Peebles, for their kindness and care and for the wonderful memories they have shared with us over the years. Zane was preceded in death by both of his parents; by his brother, Denzel Gray; son, Robert Gray; and two grandchildren, Kenneth Dale Peebles and Morgan Elizabeth Moss. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Berniece; daughter, Lisa Moss, of Boyd, Texas; son, Mike Gray of Fort Worth, Texas; his daughter-in-law, Paula Gray of Azle, Texas; sister, Sue Brown and husband, Lynn, of Boyd, Texas; his five grandchildren, Russell Peebles, Amanda Hendley and husband, Phillip, Matt Gray and wife, Stephanie, Nathan Gray and wife, Laci, and Ethan Gray; and his eight great-grandchildren.
