Obituary for Waverley Joyner Dickens, IV ARLINGTON – It is with great sadness that the family of Waverley Joyner Dickens IV, 53, announces his passing on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, after a battle with cancer. Memorial service: 3:30 p.m. Monday in Greenwood Chapel, Fort Worth.

A Funeral Mass will be at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church at a later date. Memorials: Donations may be sent to Community Hospice of Texas – CHOT.org. Waverley, known as “Jay” was born April 25, 1965, in Arlington, Texas, to Margaret and Waverley Dickens III “Dick”.

A graduate of Arlington High School, Jay attended Baylor University from 1984 -1986, where he pledged Pi Kappa Alpha. He graduated from University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, with an emphasis in public health. A longtime resident of Arlington, Jay worked for nationally-accredited Tarrant County Public Health department for more than 25 years, where he was passionate in his role protecting the community as a public health inspector.

Jay’s interests included spending time with family, reading, science, 80’s pop culture and a deep appreciation for history, Cher and Judy Garland. Survivors: His partner, Will Robertson; mother and father, Margaret and Dick Dickens; sister and brother-in-law, Ginger and Kent Porter; and their children, Sterling, John and Holt Porter.
