Obituary for A’Shanti Ayanna Meyan Adams – Lafleur Obituary of A’Shanti Ayanna Meyan Adams-LaFleur A celebration of the life of A’Shanti Adams-LaFleur, 17, of Opelousas, Louisiana will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018. A’Shanti passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Friday, June 15, 2018. The wake will be held from 7:30 AM to 10:45 AM and funeral services will proceed at 11:00 AM at Mohorn Baptist Church in Plaisance, LA.

Rev. Nicholas Thomas Sr. will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Mohorn Baptist Church cemetery.

Words of expression from family and friends not on program will be during the Wake from 9:30AM – 10:30AM. A’Shanti Adams-LaFleur was born in Opelousas, LA on September 19, 2000 to Meagon Adams and Joseph Lionel Sam Jr She was later adopted by Harold and Clara LaFleur.

She graduated on May 10, 2018 with her high school diploma from J. S. Clark Leadership Academy and an associate degree in General Studies from SLCC T. H. Harris Campus in Opelousas, LA. She was accepted at University at Louisiana at Lafayette, which she was going to begin in the Fall 2018 semester. She had plans on completing her bachelor’s degree, majoring in Business.

She was a member of the Mohorn Baptist Church Youth choir, praise dance team, and J. S. Clark Leadership Academy choir. She participated in several events with the church. She was a monumental force in building family and friends.

She was a special part of all of our lives. She had a big beautiful smile that she loved to show often. She had a very charismatic personality that she shared with everyone she met.

She leaves to cherish memories: her adopted parents, Harold and Clara LaFleur of Opelousas, LA; biological parents, Meagon (Timothy) Jolivette and Joseph Lionel Sam Jr. both of Opelousas, LA; one adopted sister, Kenya (Martin) Chevis Jr. of Carencro, LA; one adopted brother, Jawann (Brittanie) LaFleur Sr. of Opelousas, LA; one biological brother, Marctavious Singleton of Opelousas, LA; two biological sisters, Shantashia Singleton and Lyric Singleton both of Opelousas, LA; maternal grandmother, Lillie (Joseph) Singleton of Opelousas, LA; maternal grandfather, John Lee (Jennifer) Adams Sr. of Philadelphia, PA; paternal grandmother, Phyllis (Burke) Reynolds of Lafayette, LA; paternal grandfather, Kenneth (Stephanie) Winfrey of Opelousas, LA; four nephews and one niece, three maternal aunts, one maternal uncle, three paternal aunts and a host of cousins on all sides of her family.
