Aaron Sidney Hendershott of Red Oak, Texas passed away on January 08, 2019. Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00AM at Farley Street Baptist Church, 1116 Brown Street, Waxahachie, Texas 75165 with Reverend Richard Smith officiating. Inurnment to follow at a later date at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Driggers and Decker Family Funeral Home, 105 Vintage Drive, Red Oak, Texas 75154. Aaron Sidney was born on October 20, 1933 in Dallas, Texas to Aaron A. and Thelma Lenore Hendershott. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy and was awarded with a National Defense Service Medal.
In 1963, Aaron Sidney received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. He worked for Texas Instruments before he realized his true passion for teaching. He returned to college to receive his teaching certificate from North Texas State University in 1973 and continued his education until he received his master’s degree in 1976.
He taught for the Dallas Independent School District for 22 years focusing on the Science Department. During his career, he was nominated for the Golden Apple Award, won the sub district I outstanding teacher of the year for E.W. Walker, was a nominee for North Dallas Chamber of Commerce outstanding teacher award and he was an honorary PTA life member. In addition to teaching, Aaron Sidney drove a school bus for 15 years.
He was a lover of the arts and frequently visited the Kimball Art Museum in Fort Worth where he would wonder for hours gazing up at the works of art. Not only did Aaron Sidney love and appreciate the arts, he was an artist himself. He loved to paint and draw.
He started an Art Club in San Benito, Texas where he shared his passion through teaching others how to draw. His love for teaching was obvious in the encouragement and assistance he showed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to follow their desire to draw and write. Aaron Sidney was an active family man, from delivering his son, Christopher in the front seat of a car to helping his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren with their science projects in school to coaching every sport his children participated in.
He was somebody that could always be counted on. He was also a very skilled handyman. He knew how to remodel a house, put in floors, windows, cabinets, you name it, he could do it and do it well.
Aaron Sidney was constant presence in his family’s life. He loved and adored his wife, Virginia. They married on December 24, 1961 and never looked back.
They enjoyed each other’s company and loved the life they shared. Together they traveled the world. They visited all 50 states and traveled to Europe twice.
They lived in an R.V. together for 3 years enjoying what God created. His love for God and his family was apparent to the people that knew him. His sweet smile and tender heart will be missed by all.
Aaron Sidney was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marifrank and son-in-law, Douglas Harkins and grandson-in-law, Randy Young. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Virginia Hendershott; son, Michael Lee Hendershott and his wife, Kathy Ellen; daughter, Teresa Rochelle Reed and her husband, Bobby Wayne; daughter, Wendi Harkins; son, Christopher Aaron Hendershott and his wife Heather Dale; grandchildren, Aaron Michael Hendershott and his wife, Pei-Lan, Amanda Christine Grahovec and her husband Nicholas Edward, Candice Dawn Reed, Brian Matthew Reed, Robyn Leann Reed, Rochelle L. Vance, Mackenzie Renee Harkins, Mikaela Rochelle Harkins, Brendan Aaron Hendershott, Madisson Adelaide Hendershott; great- grandchildren, Audrey Katlind Grahovec, Adalyn Grace Grahovec , Abigail Nicole Grahovec, Arianna Lynn Grahovec, Benjamin Michael Hendershott, Kalee Reed, B. Matthew Reed, Danielle Rae Edwards and Rylee Ann Reed; niece, Laura Lee Haywood; and countless friends.
