Adele Westover Obituary Photo

Adele (Rene) Westover, aged 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Black Diamond, WA, on October 29, 2018. She was born January 4, 1933 in Bismarck, ND, and was the oldest daughter of Gordon and Hazel Rene of Neche, ND. After growing up on a potato farm and graduating from high school, she enrolled at North Dakota State College, graduating from Moorhead (MN) with an Elementary Education degree which she used to become a teacher.

Adele met Darrell in the summer of 1955 while working at Wallowa Lake Resort in Eastern Oregon. She’d been warned to watch out for the bartender, however as a strong, independent woman, Adele defied everyone’s advice and began dating Darrell. They were married in 1957.

Darrell and Adele lived and worked in several parts of the country and world. In 1974 they settled in Maple Valley, WA where they lived for the next 43 years raising a family. They were married for over 60 years before Darrell passed away in March 2018.

Adele was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, gardener, knitter, crafter and committed business owner (apple cider, kettle corn, Christmas tree farm). She was also a volunteer: at her local voting precinct, her children’s and grandchildren’s schools, at their church, and as an art docent. Adele will be remembered for her smile, quick wit, love of family and for always helping others.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; a son, Robert; her brothers Donald and Robert; and her sister, Marjory. She is survived by her three children Charles (Valerie) Westover, Bill (Leslie) Westover and Karen (Eric) Bernard; their four grandchildren (Allison, Nicole, Kyle and Tyler) and four great-grandchildren (Chloe, Molly, Annabelle and JC); and brother Duane Rene. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to your church, or to the Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Services will be held November 17, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Barbara’s Church in Black Diamond. A reception will follow. Please sign the online guestbook at www.
