Mrs. Agnes Kellam Grubb, 94, of Onley, VA, beloved wife of the late Raymond Disco Grubb, Jr., passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Hermitage on the Eastern Shore in Onancock, VA, where she had made her home the past eleven years. With her husband, she touched lives with a unique blend of wit and wisdom. Born August 28, 1924 in Bobtown, VA, she was the last surviving child of John Clarence Kellam and Carrie Mears Kellam.

As one of seven children, Agnes always assumed the role of caregiver, confidant, and advisor. Her strong shoulders supported many – both young and old. She loved her family, her friends, her country, and people of all ages.

Agnes was a proud graduate of Central High School, Class of 1943; member of Hollies Baptist Church; and was granted lifetime membership in Temperanceville O.E.S., Chapter #88. She served her country by working 33 years for the federal government as a respected female aircraft electrician, at the Norfolk Naval Air Station. She took great pride in contributing to the military efforts of our country through three wars… World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam.

Fiercely independent, she was an advocate for the rights of women, long before the days of women’s lib. Despite working long hours on tedious tasks, and multiple gender-based harassments, she believed women (who were more than able) had a contribution to make to society. Agnes is survived by the families of her six siblings who predeceased her, including four sisters, Hilda K. Kellam, Margaret Kellam Brown, Annie Mae Kellam Parker, and Nell Kellam Lupton; and two brothers, John Clarence Kellam, Jr., and Perry Wise Kellam.

A visitation will be held at the Hollies Baptist Church in Keller, VA, Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., immediately followed by a graveside service in the church cemetery. The Reverend Joe McKnight will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the Hermitage on the Eastern Shore Employee Fund, 23610 North Street, Onancock, VA 23417, or to a charity of one’s choice.

Memory tributes may be shared with the family at www. williamsfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements by the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home.
