Alfred L. Smith, age 87, of Adrian, MI, passed away, April 23, 2018, at home under Great Lakes Hospice. He was born October 6, 1930, in Ridgeway Twp. , MI, the son of Glade & Juanita (Powers) Smith.

Alfred graduated from Sand Creek High School in 1948 then entered into the U. S. Army and served four years. He married Betty Barnhart in 1957, and after fifty three years together, she preceded him in death. Alfred worked at Hoover Ball Bearing, he then retired from Sedco.

In addition to his wife Betty Smith, was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Marguerite Smith and a brother Frederick “Herb” Smith. He leaves behind a very special niece and caregiver, Shar Ann (John) Packard and her children, Allen (LezLe) Packard and family and Sarah Wielfaert, and special to his heart, Lexi, Dana, John and Luke. Also surviving are three sisters in law, Pauline, Pat and Loretta.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, April 27, 2018, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian, MI. Visitation will also be on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. www.
