Obituary for Alfred R. Whelan Alfred R. Whelan, age 81, of Carleton, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Beaumont Hospital in Taylor, Michigan. Born on December 25, 1936 in Wyandotte, Michigan, he was the son of Alfred and Katherine (Schlumbohm) Whelan. On August 27, 1960 he married Leona Le Duc in St. Timothy, Trenton.

He was employed with Great Lakes Steel Company as a Crane Operator for 36 years until retiring in 1994. Alfred was a 1965 graduate of Howe Military Academy in Indiana, he served in the US Marine Corps and was a member of the United Steel Workers Union. After retiring from Great Lakes Steel he work at Comerica Park and Ford Field.

He enjoyed sports, taking trips to Las Vegas and loved his family. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Whelan and sisters Barbara Jean Williams andBeverly Mae Stach. He is survived by his wife, Leona Whelan of Carleton; sons, Mark (Brandi) Whelan of West Bloomfield and Matthew (Karen) Whelan of Monroe; 5 grandchildren.

Friends may visit in the Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home, Flat Rock Chapel on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held in the Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Father Michael Woroniewicz will officiate the service.
