Obituary for Allen Lynn Nelson Allen Lynn Nelson, of Reidsville, NC, passed away on May 10, 2018 in the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital Heart ICU in Greensboro, NC. Allen was born in Reidsville, NC to the late Jesse Floyd Nelson and the late Elizabeth Coe Nelson. He was a Sgt.

First Class, active in the US Army and the NC Army National Guard for 37 years. During that time, he served in Vietnam and the Middle East. He traveled to Germany, Korea and many other countries and states on missions.

During his service, he was awarded the following medals: National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Combat Medical Badge, Purple Heart, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Silver Star, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (3), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (2), and the Humanitarian Service Medal. He and his family have most recently operated a family business, Package Express Plus, on Freeway Dr. in Reidsville, NC. He attended Bethany School and Rockingham Community College.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary “Bonnie” Scurry Nelson of Reidsville, NC, his daughter Mary Lynn “Missy” Nelson of Reidsville, NC and two stepchildren, Jaime Eagan of St. Petersburg, FL and K. Scott Engstrom of Philadelphia, PA. He is also survived by three sisters, Nell Fain of Eden, NC, Stella Setliff of Reidsville, NC and Doris Hodnet of Danville, VA. He and his wife share the pleasure of 9 grandchildren, Marybeth Nelson and Andrew Nelson of Reidsville, NC, Scott Eagan, Ashley Eagan and Caroline Eagan of Florida and Brian Engstrom, Megan Engstrom, Benjamin Engstrom and Madelyn Engstrom of Pennsylvania and a great granddaughter, Aaliyah Nelson of Reidsville, NC.

The family will receive friends and celebrate his life on June 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at a memorial service at Wilkerson Funeral Home which will be followed by an inurnment and full military honors at Reidlawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the ROC, formerly known as the Rockingham Opportunities Corporation, AMVETS, also known as American Veterans, and/or the Rockingham Community College – Reidsville High School Class of ‘58 Fund.
