Alma Donlay March 16, 1927 – May 14, 2019 Alma Florentine Donlay (nee Wolfkamp), 92, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Lorien Assisted Living in Mount Airy, MD. She had been a resident of Frederick, MD for the past 9 years. Alma was born on March 16, 1927 and raised in Maywood NJ with her large family of 5 sisters and 1 brother.
She graduated from Bogota High School. She married her late husband, Thomas F. Donlay, in 1958, and is survived by her son Mark (Jan), daughters Lynn Winship (Dick) and Janice Forostiak (Mike), and daughter-in-laws Dorothy and Mary. She also leaves behind many grandchildren: Sherri Plate (Kyle) and Colleen Antionette (Brian) of Tampa, Florida; Stacy Imperato (Steve) of Branchburg, NJ; Stephanie, Samantha and Melissa Donlay in NJ; and Kelly, David and Nick Forostiak of Mount Airy, MD.
Her great grandchildren include: Casey and Katie Plate, and Erin Steele; Brooklynn Imperato; McKenna and Roselynn Strunk; Riley Corbin; and Ava Antoinette. She was blessed with three great-great grandchildren, Amelia, Maddie and Olivia Plate. In addition to her husband of 33 years, Tom, she was preceded in death by sons Tommy, Jeff and Roger.
She is also once again rejoined with her beloved birth family including parents Ernst and Dora, sisters Sophie, Edna, Clara, Myra and Doris, and brother Ernie. Alma spent most of her life in New Jersey, raising her family, and was employed over the years as a secretary/executive assistant at Bendix, John E. Joyce, and AT&T. She was also a bookkeeper for the family businesses, which included an auto sales establishment, an auto body shop, and a florist.
She retired from AT&T in 1991 and moved to Seaford, DE for a brief period of time. She spent the next 20 years in New Jersey until her move to Maryland in 2010. Wherever she lived, Alma was active in the church, participating in women’s groups, bible studies and singing in the church choirs.
Alma was loved by all who knew her, and was known for her fun personality and sense of humor. Her sweet demeanor carried her through her final days at Country Meadows and Lorien. A visitation and memorial service will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church 120 E Pleasant Ave.
, Maywood NJ, on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a service at 12:00 noon. A committal will be held immediately after at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association of Northern NJ 400 Morris Ave.
