Alma Gamble DuPont December 16, 1936 – May 11, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card FLORENCE – Alma Gamble DuPont, 82, previously of Florence, SC, and most recently a resident of Spartanburg SC, passed away peacefully at McLeod Hospice House on May 11, 2019. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Waters-Powell Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Mount Hope Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Born in December, 1936, in Greeleyville, SC, she was the middle child of five daughters born to Jodie Canty Gamble and Thelma Cook Gamble. Alma was a graduate of Greeleyville High School and was one of the first women to attend Clemson University.

After school, she became a stewardess for Delta Airlines and later an editor for New Orleans magazine. In 1979, she graduated from Florence-Darlington Technical College as a dental hygienist, a career she followed until her retirement. Her sons, Ronald C. DuPont, Jr., and Jason Gamble DuPont, and her oldest sister, Frances Elaine Gillian, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her daughter, Denise DuPont Sachs (Bruce) of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and her sisters, Joann Sanders (Bobby), Theresa Lassiter (Ray), and Gladys Cousar (Wayne).
