Obituary for Alma I. Avery Alma Avery, 86 Kearney resident Alma Avery, 86, of Kearney died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Mother Hull Home in Kearney. Funeral services will be 11:30 am Monday, May 7, 2018 at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Pofahl officiating. Interment will follow at the Kearney Cemetery.

Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 pm Sunday and one hour prior to the service all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Mother Hull Home. Condolences may be shared online at www.

osrfh.com. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Alma was born October 6, 1931 South of Riverton, NE to Fred and Edna (Goebel) Schriner.

She attended Rock Creek School until her parents moved to a farm south of Naponee, NE, where she attended Griffin School. She helped her family on the farm during WWII, while her brothers served in the military. Alma was waitress for the café in Naponee while the Harlan Dam was being constructed.

On December 22, 1949, Alma was united in marriage to Marvin E. Avery. They had three children, Gary, Steve and Marlene and moved from Naponee to Kearney in 1971. Alma worked for Baldwin Filters until she retired in 1991 due to failing health.

She loved sewing, cooking. Baking, gardening and watching her grandchildren race. Alma’s favorite flowers were peonies and yellow roses, and she adored swans.

Alma loved her family and would often have get togethers at her home. She lived for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children; Gary Avery and wife Vicki of Norfolk, Steven Avery and wife Karen of Minden, and Marlene Kuypers of Kearney; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; brothers Raymond Schriner and wife Idella of Dodge City, KS and Maurice Schriner and wife Beulah of Dodge City, KS, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin Avery; brothers Edward, Merlyn, Marvin, Delbert, Carl and Cliff and sisters Wilma, Hilda and Doris Jean.
