Obituary for Jim R. Applegate James Applegate, 85 Gibbon resident James R. “Jim” Applegate, 85 of Gibbon died Sunday, June 17th at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital. A memorial service will be held 10:30 am Friday at the Gibbon Baptist Church. The Rev.

Mike Evans will officiate. Inurnment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. Military honors will be provided by the Gibbon American Legion Post #310 and the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department. Condolences may be shared online at www.

osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremations Services. Jim was born June 10, 1933 in Kearney, Nebraska to E.M. and Helen (Grow) Applegate.

He was raised on a farm in the Gibbon area. He attended country school and then graduated from Gibbon High School in 1950. Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean War.

While there, he met his future wife, Regia Marie Steger. On November 12, 1955, they were united in marriage in Gibbon, NE. He farmed in the Gibbon area until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Regia of Gibbon; son Scott Applegate and wife Janis of Gibbon; granddaughter Sarah Jennifer Applegate of Lincoln and nephew John Kindervag of Coppell, TX.
