Obituary for Harlan G. Furry Harlan Furry Kearney resident, 83 Harlan G. Furry, 83 of Kearney died Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Kearney Regional Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with the Rev. Art Faesser officiating.
Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #52, VFW Post #759 in conjunction with the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, June 11th at the church with a vigil prayer service beginning at 7:00 pm. Memorials are suggested to the Kearney Peterson Senior Activity Center.

Harlan was born April 10, 1935 on a farm at Lexington, Nebraska to Glen and Harriette (Pickering) Furry. On February 5, 1960, he married Judith E. Pickerell in Lake Manawa, Iowa. They divorced in 1986.
To this union, two children, a son, Russell, and a daughter, Joan, were born. On December 20, 1987, he married Dorothy J. Frick in Kearney. Surviving relatives include his wife Dorothy of Kearney, son Russell and his wife Jennifer of Centennial, CO, daughter Joan Gutierrez and her husband Brian of Fontana, CA, stepson Eugene Frick and his wife Tammey of Kearney, stepdaughter Kristi Marshall and her husband Art of Elm Creek, stepson John Frick and his wife Patty of Kearney, stepson David Frick and his friend Veronica Schyma of Kearney, six grandchildren, Grant Furry and his wife Kim, Lauren and Anna Furry, Alex Green, Noah and Evan Gutierrez, eight stepgrandchildren, Lindsey Marshall and fiancé Mitch Miles, Dr. Sarah Luderer and husband Micah, Adam Marshall and wife Jennifer, and Derek Marshall, M.D. and fiancé Becky Svatora, Josh Vanden Berge, Jessica Vanden Berge, BreAnna Frick, and Alivia Lawson; great grandchild Theodore Furry; stepgreat grandchildren Jack and Henry Luderer; three sisters: Meredith Keep of Elm Creek, Edie Zetterman of Lexington, Jean Stahla and her husband Phil of Gillette, WY, one sister-in-law Patricia Grafel of Hastings, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Harriette Furry. His elementary education was in country schools (District 25 Dawson County and District 5 Phelps County). He graduated from Loomis High School in 1953.
Following high school, he worked on the family farm and for farm neighbors until enlistment into the U.S. Army on October 3, 1956. He spent two years in the Army and was discharged on August 11, 1958. Following his discharge, he was employed for ten years as a tool and machine designer for Rockwell Manufacturing in Kearney.
In September 1968, he and his wife, Judy enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He graduated in December of 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. Following graduation, he took an engineering job with Baldwin Filters in Kearney.
Baldwin Filters later became part of Clarcor Corporation. In 1993, Harlan was named a recipient of the Senior Fellow Award by Clarcor. He spent twenty-eight years with Baldwin Filters in various roles, before retiring in 2001 as the Director of Engineering.
For the years 2002 through 2012, he was employed by H&R Block as a tax preparer. Harlan was a member of St. James Catholic Church and an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the St. Louis Cardinals. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Harlan G.
