Obituary for James Jacobsen James “Jake” Jacobsen, 67 Kearney resident James “Jake” Jacobsen, 67, of Kearney died Tuesday, May 22nd at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held 10:30 am Wednesday at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home with the Rev. Duane Osnes officiating.

Interment will follow at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Fire Department. Condolences may be shared online at www.

osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Jake was born October 15, 1950 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Jack L. and Beverly (Anderson) Jacobsen.

He was raised in Grand Island and was a graduate of Grand Island Senior High School. After his graduation, he served in the U.S. Army for a short time before joining the Grand Island Fire Department where he served for 27 years. Following his retirement from the fire department, he began his career in loss prevention with Sears and later with Walmart.

He continued with Walmart for the past 25 years where he made many close friends. Jake had many hobbies but his favorites where fishing, hunting and traveling. He enjoyed duck and goose hunting and spending time at the blind.

He spent time fishing at Harlan County Reservoir. He was very adventurous and most of all enjoyed going to Deadwood, SD with his “#1 lady” and significant other of 20 years, Julie Beaumont. Jake will be remembered for his quick wit and his “Jakeisms” such as; “Remember to Endeavor to persevere with a sense of urgency”, “Let your conscience be your guide” and “Improvise, Adapt and Overcome”, just to name a few.

Survivors include his significant other, Julie Beaumont of Kearney; daughters Heather Langan and husband Joel, Valerie Pfenning and husband Justin, Jayme Davis and Kristen Jacobsen; grandchildren Hudson Pfenning, Lennon Pfenning, Canden Davis, Hudson Davis; brother Jack C. Jacobsen of Cocoa, FL; and nephew Christian Jacobsen. Jake was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Jeffrey and his grandmother Alice Anderson.
