Obituary for Alta Darlyne Hummon Alta “Darlyne” Hummon, 87, of Northville, formerly of Birmingham and Beverly Hills, passed away on September 20, 2018 in Alma, Michigan. A memorial service will be held at Masonic Pathways in Alma (date and time TBD). Darlyne’s wishes were to have her remains utilized for teaching purposes at Wayne State School of Medicine.

Darlyne was born in Burlington, Iowa to Alfred E. and Alta (McElroy) Adams on May 2, 1931. She married Wallace R. Hummon in 1953. She graduated from Wheaton College and later earned a Master’s in Education from Wayne State University.

Darlyne was the ‘first chair’ trumpet player in the Burlington Orchestra for many years. She taught at various schools and organizations throughout her life. She also was a business owner (gift, flower and candy shop) at the Detroit Medical Center.

Darlyne served as a Cub Scout Den-Mother, party organizer, community theatre actor, neighborhood rabble-rouser, and all-around counselor. Darlyne was preceded in death by her brother, Elroy “Ace” Adams, former husband Wallace R. Hummon and son David R. Hummon. Darlyne is survived by her son Scott (Sherry) Hummon; three grandchildren, Chelsea Nester, Morgan Hummon and Raymond Hummon; and two great grandchildren, Arlo and Hawthorn Nester.

Memorials may be given to the Masonic Charitable Foundation, 1200 Wright Ave. , Alma, MI 48801 and/or Heartland Hospice, 1627 E. Broomfield St., Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858.
