Obituary for Althea G. Goeken Althea G. Goeken (68) of Toppenish passed away on Wednesday July 25, 2018 at Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital. Althea was born on July 2, 1950 to Albert and Shirley (Newman) Shelton in Toppenish. Raised and educated on the Satus, Althea graduated from Wapato High School in 1968.

She worked at the Satus Store as a cook, worked for Doc Underwood, SP Farms and for the Toppenish Livestock Commission. Althea was the White Swan Rodeo Queen in 1967 and will be remembered for her kind, giving spirit. She loved her family and her dog, Zeus & her cats, Tuffy and Rags.

She enjoyed a good western, chariot races, and cooking shows. Althea is also remembered as a very talented cook. She is survived by her children, Shelly Peterson of Toppenish, Shawnie Haas of Wapato and Gary Goeken of Graham; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two brothers, Kenny Nulph of Spokane and Doug Shelton of Grandview; two sisters, Sara Jo Renfro of Toppenish and Margaret Shelton of Sunnyside; and one niece.

Althea was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gary in April 2018, her brother, Wallace “Ky” and a niece, Josephine. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Heggie’s Colonial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
