Alvin Gilbert Gutierrez, 90, of Villegreen, Colorado passed away on April 16, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Alvin was born on the family ranch on July 27, 1927 to the late Raymond and Mary Maude (Goodrich) Gutierrez. Alvin attended high school at La Junta High School and graduated in 1945.

He married Barbara Weigel of La Junta, Colorado on December 13, 1955 and began their life together. Alvin worked as a lift truck operator at the La Junta canning factory. … Read More » He also worked at the Ft.

Lyon VA Hospital as a nurse aide for 3 years. He then moved his family to the family ranch south of La Junta. There his days were filled with never-ending ranching obligations like working cattle, fixing windmills and mending fences.

In addition to his ranching demands he also drove the school bus for the Higbee School for many years and worked several years for the Las Animas County as a road-maintainer grader operator. He was a quiet and gentle man, a devoted father and grandfather with a big heart for his family and loved to play guitar. Alvin retired from the ranch life in 1995 and filled his days with various activities he never had time to do before.

Trapping and coyote calling were two of his favorite pastimes although he never said no to the opportunity to go fishing. In 2013 he and his wife moved to Falcon, Colorado which brought them closer to their family. Although in his heart he never really left his home, the family ranch, he remained active occupying his time with fishing, gardening, gold panning and metal detecting.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Patricia (Pete) Carrica of Calhan, CO and Lorrie (Patrick) Small of Falcon, CO; sons, Greg (Jeff Wiese) of Colorado Springs and Marvin of Ellicott, CO; granddaughters, Amy, Michelle and Samantha; great-grandson, Wesley; and an extensive extended family. He was the last living member of his family and is preceded in passing by his parents and 7 siblings; Charles, Ramon, Benjamin, Gavin, Evangeline, Vernon, and Margaret. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
