Emil Samuel Rogge Jr., 91 passed away on June 28, 2018 at the Fowler Health Care Center in Fowler. He was born to Emil Henry and Lucille Beatrice Haddock-Rogge, January 19, 1927 in Denver Colorado. His parents moved to Russell Springs, Kansas where he lived most of his childhood.

His family moved to Rye, Colorado, where he graduated high school. After graduation, Emil enlisted in the Army and served during World War II with the 9th Infantry Division in Germany. When he returned home his family… Read More » had moved to a ranch 15 miles north of Fowler, Colorado, where he met his wife, Olive Mae Smith.

They were married December 24, 1947. Emil and Olive celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2017. Emil learned to fly small aircraft in his 20s and held a private pilot’s license as he continued to fly for most of his adult life.

He loved flying! We all have many happy memories flying with him, and Emil was a founding member of the Fowler Airfield. Emil worked at the Pueblo Army Depot as a supervisor in the ammunition area and retired at the age of 50.

After he retired he farmed and served as a Fowler City Trustee for many years. Emil was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Emil H. Rogge; mother, Lucille Beatrice Rogge; grandson, Lucas Rogge; and great-granddaughter, Kinsley Rogge.

He is survived by his wife, Olive Mae Rogge; sisters, Eileen Straach Lara, Patricia (Bill) Graham; children, Emil S. “Sam” (Jill) Rogge II, Gary L. (Debra) Rogge, Steven W. (Jeanette) Rogge and Bonnie J. (Michael) Housh; grandchildren, Shamay (Darren) Smith, Jessica (Joshua) Freeman, Jace (Toni) Rogge, Mathew Rogge, Joshua (Elizabeth) Rogge, Katherine Rogge, Courtney Rogge, Clinton Housh, Alexander Housh, Tamara Housh; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Smith, Hailey Smith, Julia Freeman, Josie Freeman, Logan Rogge, Keaton Rogge, and Trayton Rogge. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fowler with Reverend Wayne Josephson officiating. Interment will follow at the Fowler Cemetery with military honors by the Rocky Ford Rifle Team, American Legion, Post #8.
