He married his wife Brenda McDonald, on August 7, 1965 in the Holy Chapel of Wichitas in Oklahoma.

In 1979, he became a Deputy Sheriff for Las Animas County and retired after 30 years of service. He enjoyed keeping his family entertained on the computer with all of his modern technology skills – he was a Facebook junkie. He enjoyed attending his granddaughters rodeo events where he met many wonderful rodeo families. He also enjoyed his grandsons playing soccer and theater performances in Colorado Springs.
