Dorothy Jean Rooks “Jean”, passed away quietly at her home in Colorado Springs on Sunday, July 15, 2018. Her husband of almost 54 years, John, was by her side when she passed. Jean was born to Carroll and Evelyn May in Quantico, Virginia on January 2, 1929.

She was 89 years of age. Jean was the middle of three sisters (Shirley, Jean, and Ruby). In high school she was a star softball and basketball player.

She was employed several years as an administrator at Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site. In 1992 Jean and John moved to Colorado Springs and built the beautiful house where they lived together until her death.

Relatives, friends, and neighbors alike will remember Jean’s caring and giving nature, and her willingness to help in any way she could. She was always an avid animal lover, feeding the small wildlife that often came up to her in her backyard. Left to honor Jean and to remember her love are her husband John T. Rooks, son Ronnie Williams, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one sister in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the First Church of God located at 901 Carson Avenue, La Junta, Colorado, 80150. The family will greet friends at the Church from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. before the service. Pastor Ed Kite will be officiating.

Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, 402 Potter Drive, La Junta, Colorado, 81050. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the name of Jean Rooks to your favorite charity. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Johnson-Romero Family Funeral Home of La Junta.
