OBITUARY Andrew Wassell September 6, 1927 – July 16, 2018 Andrew Wassell, 90, of Charlotte, died Monday, July 16th at Sharon Towers where he resided briefly. He was born September 6, 1927 in the town of Tuxedo, NY to the late Anna Bishko and Michael Wassell. He grew up in Tuxedo Park where his parents served the Curtis family.

Andy was a graduate of George H. Baker High School in Tuxedo and went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame after serving in the United States Army in the Philippines during and after World War II. He began his career working for Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company in Milwaukee, WI and transferred with the company to Charlotte in 1953. He married his wife of nearly fifty years, the late Marion Trestain, in Milwaukee in 1954.

They made their home and raised their family in Charlotte. He continued working in the power distribution industry as a salesman and sales manager for Allis-Chalmers, later Siemens, until his retirement. Andy was an avid gardener and lifelong supporter of Notre Dame.

He was first and foremost a man of faith and integrity; remembered as a kind man, generous with his time, conversation, and aid. Andy is survived by a wealth of family: daughter, Mary Wassell Stowe and husband Glenn of Charlotte, NC; son, Michael Wassell and wife Wren of Chesapeake, VA; son, Richard Wassell and wife Dianna of Chesapeake, VA; daughter, Christine Blackman and husband Patrick of Pownal, VT; sister, Irene Werther of Sloatsburg, NY; grandchildren, Angela Nicholson and husband Justin, Kathleen Wassell and husband Trevor Brennan, Andrew Wassell, James Wassell, Joseph Wassell, Scott Wassell, and Samuel Blackman; and great grandchildren, Adelina Nicholson, and Elliot Nicholson. A rosary followed by visitation will be held at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2018.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 at St. Ann Catholic Church, Reverend Timothy Reid officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, Matthews.
