Anita L. Bernstein, age 80, of Hull, formerly of Cohasset, passed away on June 21, 2018 at home. Beloved wife of David Bernstein, whom she married in 1962. Devoted mother of Glen Bernstein and wife Alisa of Scituate, and Philip Bernstein of Boston.

Adoring grandmother of Lauren and Matthew. Born and raised in a small town in upstate New Jersey, Anita loved to sing and won the New Jersey All State Chorus Competition. She had longed to live in New England and began her college studies at Northeastern Univ.

in Boston. In 1955. She was asked to sing the solo in the 1956 NU Graduation commencement in Boston’s famous Symphony Hall.

In her final semester of her freshman year towards the very end of the school year, received a letter from her parents telling her they were divorcing and had no more money to provide to her for her education. Instead of sinking into despair after the news, took a brave step and went alone on a boat to Europe in 1956 to spend 4 months with her German relatives. Her courage and spirited adventure was showing, as she met new friends on the boat and in Europe and traveled.

Upon her return, she began working at Sears & Roebuck in 1957 and met her husband, David. Family always came first for Anita and she loved spending time in Scituate with her daughter in law, Alisa and grandchildren. Anita enjoyed living by the water and fell in love with Cohasset during her families search for a home.

She enjoyed gardening, swimming, Cohasset’s Sandy beach and shopping at Holly Hill Farm. Anita was also a member of the Cohasset Garden Club. Anita was passionate about volunteering whether it was driving Meals on Wheels, working the Cohasset Baseball concession stands while her two sons played little league and walking down to the South Shore Music Circus to help out in the concession stands.

Anita was truly the most selfless, caring and sincere person, always putting her families and friends’ needs above her own. No form of hardship ever stood in the way of her wonderful sense of humor, positive outlook, and her ability to laugh. Services and interment were private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Anita may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, www. arthritis.org/.
