Mrs. Ann Dowling Kolb Garner, a lifelong resident of Ozark, Alabama passed away peacefully at home Monday, February 11, 2019. She was 87 years old. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, February 16, 2019 in the First United Methodist Church of Ozark with Reverend Michael Sigler and Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating.
Interment will follow in Ozark City Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Friday, February 15, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark. Born on January 12, 1932 and raised in Ozark, Ann was the first of three children of William Paul Kolb and Dorothy Dowling Kolb.
After graduating from Dale County High School in 1950 and earning a Bachelor of Arts degree at Huntingdon College, Montgomery in 1954, Ann completed her certification as a Medical Technologist at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana. Ann married Gifford Sutton Garner on December 28, 1956 and they established their home in Ozark. Ann and Gifford had two daughters, Susann and Dottie.
While raising their daughters Ann continued her career as a Medical Technologist at Dale County Hospital and several doctor’s offices in town. In retirement Ann and Gifford participated together in many community activities, including active service to their church, Wiregrass Hospice, Dale County Genealogical and Historical Society, Claybank Master Gardeners, Friends of the Ozark-Dale County Library, and enjoyed Enterprise Dance Club and numerous memorable vacations. Always an avid baker, Ann was honored by several cooking awards and everyone who knew her benefited from her talent.
The delights of her life were her three beautiful granddaughters. Ann is predeceased by her loving husband of 57 wonderful years, Gifford Sutton Garner, and her parents Paul and Dorothy Kolb. Ann is survived by her two daughters, Susann Kolb Garner Bates (Doug) of Dothan, AL, and Dr. Dorothy Caroline Garner (John) Gaylord of Roanoke, VA, and three granddaughters, Sarah Caroline Bates of Orlando, FL, Eliza Ann Gaylord (Ryan) of San Francisco, CA, and Allison Leigh Gaylord of Roanoke, VA.
She is also survived by her brother, William Paul Kolb (Carolyn) of Navarre, FL, and her sister, Mary Lou McNair (Dan) of Daphne, AL, numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family acknowledges with sincere appreciation the loving care and concern provided by Lorine Gissendanner, the caregivers of Wiregrass Home Care of Dothan, and Dale County Community Hospice, her church family, and all those who touched her life.
