OBITUARY Ann McCrory Hodges December 5, 1929 – November 27, 2018 Ann McCrory Hodges, 88, was born December 5th, 1929 and died on November 27, 2018. She was the fourth of nine children born to Eloise and Charles McCrory. Ann was married to George V. Hodges, Jr who preceded her in death in 1995.

She was mother to three children, Robin Dane Hodges, Donna Renee Hammonds and Christopher Scott Hodges and a granddaughter whom she raised, Candra Erickson. She is survived by two siblings Jim McCrory and Joyce McCrory Bowman. She also leaves five grandchildren, Heather Battistelli, Andrew Hodges, Lacy Jones, Haley Moody, and Camille Wadel, As well as, seven great-grandchildren Lilian and Ivy Battistelli, Garin Hodges, Gabriel Agee, Bradleigh Moody, Lumi and Alma Erickson.

“Miss Ann”, as she was known by many, retired from the Memphis Fire Department after having worked for 15 years as the Executive Secretary to three Directors. During her career with the Memphis Fire Department, she organized numerous events affording her the opportunity to meet famous entertainers, officials and dignitaries, something she took great pride in, always giving her attention wholeheartedly to the finest details. After retirement, she worked for Bob Gray Photography and after moving to Murfreesboro, TN for several years, she continued to volunteer at her local Senior Center utilizing her administrative skills.

Before her return to Memphis, she resided for several years in Florida with her granddaughter where she enjoyed participating in activities such as ballroom dancing, scrap-booking and admiring the ocean. She was very proud of her career accomplishments and cherished her family and many, many friendships she made over the years. She had a lifelong love of dancing and music and was rumored to have been the Treadwell High School senior class “jitterbug champion”.

Miss Ann or Gran, as she was known by her grandchildren, will be dearly missed by the many that have had the pleasure of knowing her and having her light in their life. She was an elegant woman who represents an era gone by. Special Thanks to the nurses and staff of the Gallaway Health and Rehab Center for their loving care of her in her final days.
