Anna F Haynes Greeson , October 28, 1922 — June 25, 2018

Anna Faye Haynes Greeson, age 95, died Monday, June 25, 2018 at the Hospice House in Forest City, NC. Ann was born on October 28, 1922 in the Sugar Hill Community of McDowell County. She was the daughter of the late William S. and Ellie Marlowe Haynes.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd S. Greeson who died in 1990; her brothers Ralph Haynes, Bill Haynes, Leland Haynes and Jack Haynes; her sisters Nellie Haynes, Gladys Parker and Jeanette Laney. Ann was a longtime and faithful member of Montford Cove Baptist Church. She did her best to be helpful and giving to others.

Having grown up on a farm, she enjoyed working outdoors in her garden and yard. She also enjoyed traveling, especially with her husband and sisters. Ann led a full and meaningful life and was not afraid of work.

During World War II she worked at the nuclear facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. After the war, she worked as a telephone operator in Asheville and at the Sears mail order facility in Greensboro. It was in Greensboro where Ann met her husband, Lloyd Greeson.

After several years of marriage they returned to Marion where Lloyd began his business, Greeson Auto Supply. Ann was a homemaker busy with two children, helping her parents, raising a garden and being active in church, the PTA, Extension Homemakers, 4-H, and Girl Scouts. Ann retired from McDowell County Schools where she enjoyed working as a reading assistant, cafeteria assistant and especially as a library assistant at McDowell High School.

Left to cherish her memory are a son, Charles Greeson and a daughter, Janice Pierce and her husband Steve, all of Marion; one grandson, Benjamin Pierce and his wife Kris of Burlington, NC; two great-granddaughters, Emerson and Ellington Pierce; two sisters, Margaret Kindley and Mavis Rogers and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at Montford Cove Baptist Church on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev Shawn Berryhill officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. Flowers are appreciated, however those wishing to make a memorial donation in Ann’s memory are asked to consider Montford Cove Baptist Church, 4920 Cove Road, Union Mills, NC 28167 or Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
