Annie Mae “Ann” (NANA) Worthey Helms, 90, of Phenix City, AL passed away early Wednesday morning, March 13, 2019 at Phenix City Health Care in Phenix City. A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm EDT on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Pastor Robert Goodman officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 to 3:00 pm EST prior to the service at the funeral home in Phenix City. Serving as active pallbearers are Jaime Tatum, Jon Tatum, Brandon Stuckey, Logan Waites, Dylan Stuckey, Crofford Smith, and Allen Griffin. Mrs. Helms was born August 27, 1928 in Winter Haven, FL, daughter of the late Horace Worthey and Irene Walker Worthey.

She was employed as a purchasing agent with the Housing Authority of Columbus and was retired with many years of dedicated service. She served as a Cub Scout leader for Sherwood Elementary School. She was longtime member of Summerville Baptist Church in Phenix City where she served as a GA leader.

Mrs. Helms served on the Board of Directors for the Phenix City Girls Club; she was passionate about the welfare of children and her community. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, singing in the church choir, gardening, and spending quality time and sharing special moments with all her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved people and her church family, she was a lady of great character, witty and humorous.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, William “Bill” Helms, son, Jimmy “JW” Tatum, sisters, Juanita Oertel and Odessa Hasty, and daughter-in-law, Wendy Helms. She is survived by, Kathy Waites (Robbie), Vicki Stuckey (Butch), Greg Helms (Cindy), and Jan Tatum Whittemore (Benny), (7) grandchildren, Jaime Tatum (Kim), Jon Tatum (Kristin), Brandon Stuckey (Tiffany), Mandy Ellis, Logan Waites (Heather), Lacey Helms (Allen), and Brandi Stuckey; (9) great grandchildren, Tyler and Tysen Tatum, Sara and Noah Stuckey, Dylan Stuckey , Regan Ellis, Kalen Slocum, Crofford and Brock Smith.
