Anthony H. “Mike” Crowell, 98, of Connersville passed away early Thursday morning, October 4, 2018 at his residence. He was born July 6, 1920 in Milton, Indiana, one of eight children of Walter and Marie Schoetmer Crowell. He attended school at St. Gabriel and was a graduate of Connersville High School, Class of 1938, he played on the Varsity Teams in Boys Tennis and Boys Basketball.

On March 2, 1946, he was married in Brookville, Indiana to Patricia F. Viel of West Harrison, Ohio. Mrs. Crowell died November 5, 1998. Mike farmed most of his life in Columbia Township and had worked as a Tool Engineer at Auburn Central and their successors, American Kitchen, AVCO Manufacturing and Design & Manufacturing, retiring in 1968 after 28 years of service.

He was a member of St. Gabriel Church and had served two terms on the Fayette County School Board, served on the Columbia Township Advisory Board and was Treasurer of the Columbia Township Community Center. He was also a member of Historical Connersville for many years. During his leisure he greatly enjoyed the outdoors and Mother Nature, feeding lots of birds, feeding other animals and raising beef cattle.

An avid basketball fan, he enjoyed attending Spartan basketball games and had attended both the 1972 and 1983 Spartan’s State Basketball Tournament Championships. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Jean Goetz of Springfield, Illinois and a brother-in-law, Leroy Hendrickson. Mike is also survived by his long time friends and care-givers, Rob and Wanda Vaughn, Alan Sweney, Connie Clontz, Krista Snider, Victoria Gastrot and Nancy Crist.

Besides his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents; long time companion, Margie Huber; four brothers, Jim Crowell, George Crowell, Edward Crowell and Robert Crowell; three sisters, Esther Crowell Burger, Grace Crowell Alexander and Dorothy “Dottie” Crowell. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM, Saturday, October 13, 2018 at St. Gabriel Church with Reverend Dustin Boehm officiating. Burial will be made in Dale Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home from 5 until 8 PM, Friday, October 12, 2018 where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 PM that evening. Friends may visit online anytime at millermosterrobbins.com. Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbia Community Center and to Historical Connersville Museum.
