Samulis, 66, of Blackwood, New Jersey, died suddenly on May 15, 2019. Tony leaves behind his beloved wife Patti (nee Houston) with whom he shared 41 years of marriage, friendship and family. He also leaves behind three wonderful sons of whom he was incredibly proud – TJ Samulis (Jen), Danny Samulis (Alexandra) and Scott Samulis (Vanessa).

Tony was a loving and amazing Pop Pop to Logan, Finley, Paige, Jillian, Connor, Teagan and Victoria. He was the dear brother of Raymond Samulis (Karin) and uncle to his nephews. In addition, Tony leaves behind countless friends, neighbors and others that he has touched with his warm and giving personality.

Tony never met a stranger and would make anyone feel like a friend after only a few minutes of meeting them. He was the friend you could always count on and the one who always made you feel welcome. Tony was raised in Barrington, NJ and was a life-long resident of Camden County.

He graduated Paul VI high school in 1970 and went on to attend Glassboro State College graduating in 1975, but not before meeting his future wife and best friend. He went on to the State Police Academy where he graduated in 1977 becoming a New Jersey State Trooper. He proudly served as a State Trooper for 28 years serving as both a detective and staff sergeant.

Retirement did not slow Tony down. An active member of the Holy Child Parish, Tony could be counted on to help with the lawn festival every year and spent nine years acting as custodian for St. Teresa’s school where he was warmly known as “Mr. Tony”. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus including serving as their financial secretary.

An avid golfer, Tony could often be found strolling the greens of many local golf courses, including spending several recent years as a ranger for Valleybrook Golf Club. Along with a few life-long friends, Tony reunited his high school garage band and served as the bassist for “Still 19”, which played several local gigs each year for their small group of dedicated fans. Tony still found time for many construction projects and time to relax by the beach at his shore house.

Tony’s greatest legacy, however, is that of devoted father, Tony lovingly supported his three boys as they grew into the fine men they are today. Whether it was building cars for the pinewood derby, designing haunted hay rides in the back yard, or coaching his sons’ TBAA soccer and baseball teams (of which he later became commissioner), Tony was there to support and love his boys. Later he would share this same love and dedication for his grandchildren.

Pop Pop’s workshop could fix any broken toy and his beloved trains would never cease to inspire delight. Friends are welcome to attend a viewing and visitation with the family Monday evening, May 20th, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., as well as Tuesday morning, May 21st, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE, 126 S. Black Horse Pike, Runnemede, NJ 08078. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Child Parish, St. Teresa RC Church, 13 E. Evesham Road, Runnemede, NJ 08078.

Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 240 Lower Landing Road, Blackwood, NJ 08012. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Tony’s memory can be made to Be the Match Foundation (bethematch.org) or the St. Teresa School Annual Fund, 13 E. Evesham Road, Runnemede, NJ 08078.
