Anthony “Tony” Schurawich, age 91 of Shelton, passed away peacefully at home on July 27, 2018. He was the beloved husband of the late Irene Butts Schurawich and father of Kathleen Parker of Shelton. Born in Ansonia on April 26, 1927, he was the son of the late Leon and Mary Karpinowich Schurawich.

He graduated from Ansonia High School and later earned an Associate’s Degree from the University of New Haven in Business. Tony proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning to the valley, he was employed by the Kerite Company for the duration of his career and retired as a supervisor.

Tony loved to duckpin bowl, travel with his family and attend the Old North End reunions where he was known as, “Chillers”. He loved collecting coins and steins from his travels around the world. In his working days, he played softball for Kerite Company and was a member of the Naugatuck Valley Industrial Management Club.

A quiet, thoughtful man, he loved to laugh and was always up to trying something new, including learning to drive an electric cart at Walmart just two weeks ago. Tony is survived by his daughter Kathy Parker and her partner Archie Marcotte, his nephew Charles Grillo, Jr., and his nieces Carolyn Morse, Gloria Willoughby, and Patti Kravec. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister Ann Grillo, and brother Fred Kravec.

The family wishes to thank his caregivers, Theresa Domorod, his “second daughter” for her love, care, and good meals, Mary Jane Terrell, and his other caregivers that have helped over the years. The family would like to also thank the Saad brothers, Hopper, Lola, and the staff of Riverdale Diner who always brightened Tony’s day. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the James T. Toohey & Son Funeral Home, 92 Howe Ave.

, Shelton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Joseph Church, Shelton. Interment with full military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Shelton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shelton Animal Shelter, 11 Brewster Lane, Shelton, CT 06484 or to St. Joseph Parish, 50 Fairmont Place, Shelton, CT 06484.
